The ATS Formula 3 Cup will see a showdown between the experienced leader of the standings, Tom Dillmann, and rookie Daniel Abt at the season’s finale.

By finishing both rounds at the Nürburgring as the runner-up, the 17-year-old from Kempten has continued to make up ground to the front runner and is now ranking just nine points behind the Frenchman. The two fiercest rivals are now the only drivers with title chances in the field of over 20 drivers in the highly competitive junior series.

”Obviously, nine points are no mean feat – but not an impossible one,” said Daniel Abt with a fighting spirit after clinching his second place in Sunday’s race. The youngster advanced from fourth on the grid to second – marking as much as his ninth podium finish in his first Formula 3 season. "The Sunday was more or less unspectacular compared with Saturday, so it was particularly important that we made no mistakes and gave away no points,” summed up Daniel Abt.

On Saturday the crowd in the Eifel witnessed a spectacular Formula 3 race in which the drivers even had to make a pit stop including a tyre change. "We were still out for one lap on a wet track with slicks, so you had to keep your cool,” reported Daniel Abt. Despite communication problems with the team in the pit lane and a less than perfect stop Abt clinched a second-place finish.

”We made up points here at the Nürburgring which puts us in a position of being able to attack once more at the finale. And that’s exactly what we’ll do with full concentration,” says Daniel Abt. A total of 24 points (ten per victory, one each for the pole position and one for the fastest race lap in both rounds) will be awarded on the last weekend of the season at Oschersleben (1 to 3 October). In the rookie classification Daniel Abt has recaptured the lead and is ranking three points ahead of the Dane Kevin Magnussen.
